A further 32 days - and the smell of Christmas treats, fresh chestnuts and hot punch will fulfill the Viennese air and spread pre-Christmas atmosphere all over the city! As every year starting in mid-November, Vienna will shine in the sea of Christmas lights and numerous Christmas markets will conquer the city.

Culinary delights and hot drinks invite you to pause for a moment while listening to one of the numerous Christmas concerts. Children's eyes are sparkling with joy during baking biscuits in the Christmas workshop and taking a ride on the children's railway or the nostalgic children’s carousel. They glow with happiness when they hand their wish list over to the Christ Child in the Christmas post office. You’re still looking for some Christmas decoration? Or do you still need one or the other Christmas gift? Numerous market stalls invite you to become discovered by you. Or what do you think about ice-skating through the park of the Viennese city hall or a small curling competition?

Whether contemplative and traditional, childlike and cheerful or youthful and modern - the variety of Christmas markets is rich! To simplify your decision, we now would like to mention the most popular of the Viennese markets:

Vienna Christmas Dream at the Christmas Market
The most famous and biggest Christmas market in the city right in front of the Viennese city hall is nostalgic and modern at the same time. A new highlight since 2016 is the ice skating rink which runs through the park of the Viennese city hall. The traditional archway with the advent candles, the sea of lights along the park and the Christmas workshops for the youngest guests in the rooms of the Viennese city hall remain unchanged.

Cultural and Christmas Market Schönbrunn Palace
Pure romance and imperial flair in front of the beautiful scenery of Schönbrunn Palace. Here you will find traditional crafts and lovingly designed Christmas decorations. You will be spoiled with Austrian delicacies - accompanied by Christmas concerts. And the youngest guests are invited to join the Children's program or the Christmas workshops.

Christmas Village Maria-Theresien-Platz
Placed between the Art Historical Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Numerous stalls offer traditional crafts and extraordinary gifts made of wood, glass and ceramics, as well as a wide selection of homemade pastries and various hot drinks while gospel choirs and music groups provide Christmas Spirit.

Christmas Village Altes AKH
Especially for children and the young at heart this Christmas village with its intricate paths at the university campus Altes AKH and its cosy atmosphere offers a lot. Children's railway, Santa Claus Ferris wheel & nostalgic children’s carousel, 2 curling alleys, traditional hand-made Christmas goods and handicrafts, extraordinary punch creations - an experience for the whole family.

Old Viennese Christmas Market on Freyung
It is one of the most traditional and idyllic markets in Vienna as already in 1772 a Christmas market took place here. Handicrafts, glassworks, Christmas decoration and traditional cribs are waiting to be discovered and from 4 pm solemnly Advent music sounds around the market.

Christmas Market Am Hof
Surrounded by historical buildings of different periods the market stalls offer arts, handicrafts, Advent decoration and "noble trash". Regional delicacies, Christmas music and choral singing underline the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Village Belvedere Palace
A contemplative Christmas market in front of the magnificent Baroque scenery of the Belvedere Palace. Booths with fine arts and crafts, unconventional Christmas gifts and typical Austrian culinary delights. Gospel choirs, national and international music groups, as well as a nostalgic children’s carousel and the reindeer railway for the youngest guests round off your visit.

Art Advent at Karlsplatz
The Viennese arts and crafts scene presents itself with its art installations and numerous demonstration workshops. The unique atmosphere of the ART ADVENT is rounded off with live acts, art installations, bio-certified gastronomy and a varied children's program including a scenery of straw to romp around.

Christmas Market at Spittelberg
Charming narrow lanes between old Biedermeier houses characterize this Christmas market in the Bohemian side of Vienna. The small stalls nestling close to the walls offer a variety of products - arts, crafts and delicious treats in abundance.

Winter Market at Riesenradplatz
"Prater Rocks" – this is the motto of the probably most recent Christmas market in Vienna. Children's adventures, a ride on the original Ferris wheel or riding high on a chairoplane, live music performances from gospel over soul to pop – topped with hot punch and you will find yourself in a perfect and cool winter mood.

Christmas Market at Stephansplatz
Contemplativeness and tradition are in the first place to describe this Christmas market, stalls which offer high-quality products from Austria. The pure atmosphere around Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral is always a special highlight during the Christmas season.

The imperial and royal Christmas Market at Michaelerplatz
Unique and noble is the best way to describe this market, not at least highlighted by the aristocratic surrounding of the Viennese Hofburg Palace and the white booths with their golden letters. And every Tuesday and Thursday you can listen to traditional Tower brass bands.

Winter at the MuseumsQuartier
You prefer to enjoy the Advent season in "hip style"? So the Winter at the MQ is a must-see - ice pavilions, light installations and "winter sounds" ensure a chilliing atmosphere and a party evening with curling and a drink in the hip punch tunnel is also in the way.
