From the middle of November, when it becomes cold, cloudy and rainy, Vienna shines in a sea of illuminated Christmas trees, fairy lights, charming art installations and nicely decorated shopping streets and alleys. Probably the most wonderful time of the year finds its way and numerous Christmas markets “conquer“ the city. Whether tranquil and traditional, playful or young and modern - the scent of Christmas bakery, culinary delights and hot punch will fill the air and spread pre-Christmas mood.

Sweets and hot drinks invite to pause for a moment while listening to one of the numerous Christmas concerts. From gospel choirs and festive Advent music to soul and pop - the choice is great and offers variety for every generation. Children's eyes are glowing when submitting their wishlists to the Christkind in the Christmas post office. And during a ride on the nostalgia carousel, fun is guaranteed.

Are you looking for suitable Christmas decoration? Or one or the other Christmas gift? Traditional Christmas nativities, handcrafted Christmas decoration and high-quality Christmastree decoration can be purchased as well as original gift ideas and traditional crafts, glass decoration, ceramics and hiqu-quality products and culinary delights from Austria.
And for those who prefer sportive activities instead of shopping, the Vienna Rathauspark attracts with an icy surface of more than 7000 square meters suitable for ice skating and curling.

The variety of Christmas markets in Vienna is enormous; here we would like to list the most popular:

The Viennese Christkindlmarkt in front of the Viennese town hall (Rathaus) is probably the most famous Christmas market of Vienna, and since this year it has been called the "Wiener Weihnachtraum" (Viennese Christmas Dream).
Romantic and imperial flair can be found in front of the beautiful scenery of Schönbrunn Palace, the impressive Baroque façade in front Belvedere Palace or in between the streets and squares of the city center - like the Maria-Theresien-Square between the arthistoric and the natural history museum, the Freyung or the Advent market “Am Hof“, hosting the traditional and idyllic Altwiener Christmas markets. The streets of the artists’ quarter of Spittelberg, as well as the Art Advent at Karlsplatz, stand for the Viennese art and craft scene with their art installations and numerous workshops.
At the modern MuseumsQuartier one can spend a party evening with curling and a chilling punch tunnel. For children and young people, the Christmas village with its winding paths at the University Campus “Altes AKH“ has something to offer, as well as one of the city's most recent Christmas markets, the winter market in front of the Giants Ferries Wheel.
